Following Jesus

In one part of the bible Jesus says… ”Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG)

Following Jesus is NOT about guilt, law or obligation.  Following Jesus IS about receiving grace, empowerment and the freedom that God’s Spirit brings.

However, there are some practical things that have helped people follow Jesus and will help you also:

The first is have a read of the Bible.  The bible contains testimonies that help us understand and encounter what God is like.  Start by reading the ‘Gospels’ which are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are accounts that centre around Jesus. As you read just simply ask, “God, what do you want to point out to me today and why?”  Then as you read you will notice that God grabs your attention with something for you to experience that day

Secondly just talk to God.  That is all prayer is talking with and listening to God.  Just like talking to a person will build your friendship with them, talking with God builds your friendship with Him.

And thirdly hang out with some others who also follow Jesus. That is really all being a part of church is, hanging out with some others who also follow Jesus

What could I expect if come to a Sunday service?

Expect to be greeted at the door as you enter and receive a welcome bag with information.  There are a range of Kid’s programs, so feel free to speak to one of our RBC Kids team in the foyer who can assist you in finding the best program for your kids. Our service includes music and singing, a community time and a talk followed by morning tea.

Are there ways that I can connect and learn?

Alpha is a great way to connect with others, learn about Christianity and to grow in your faith.  It involves a weekly discussion and meal for 10 weeks.

Homegroups is another great way to get to know people and to grow.  There are home groups at various times during the week.

How can I seek more information or support?
