Acts 8:1-21 | The Scattered Church

In Part 6 of our ACTS: To the Ends of the Earth series, we look at The Scattered Church from Acts 6–8.

As opposition rises, the gospel does not retreat—it spreads. Through the bold witness of Stephen, the fierce persecution led by Saul, the mission of Philip in Samaria, and the encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch, we see the words of Jesus in Acts 1:8 begin to unfold in real time: Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

This sermon reminds us that the mission of Jesus was never meant to depend on a few leaders alone. The same Holy Spirit who empowered the apostles also empowered ordinary believers to speak, serve, suffer faithfully, and carry the gospel wherever they went.

Big Idea: When the church is scattered, the gospel spreads.

In this message we explore:

  • Stephen as a Spirit-filled witness
  • The significance of his sermon in Acts 7
  • Saul’s rise as a persecutor of the church
  • Why Acts 8:4 is a major turning point in Acts
  • Philip in Samaria and the spread of the gospel beyond Jerusalem
  • The Ethiopian eunuch and the gospel moving toward the nations
