In this second sermon in our Blessed series, Pastor David explores the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
What does Jesus mean when He says that those who mourn are blessed? How can mourning possibly be a sign of blessing?
Pastor David explores three important questions from this powerful Beatitude:
- Who are the mourners? What kind of mourning is Jesus speaking about?
- What is the comfort given? What does Jesus mean when He promises that those who mourn will be comforted?
- When is this comfort given? Is this a promise we experience now, or does it point to the future hope of God’s kingdom?
In a world that often encourages us to avoid pain, hide our grief and pursue happiness at all costs, Jesus offers a different perspective. He reminds us that God meets us in our sorrow and that mourning can lead us into a deeper awareness of our need for Him.
This message invites us to consider the comfort of God, the reality of grief, repentance, brokenness and the hope we have through Jesus Christ.
Whether you are walking through a season of personal loss, grieving over the brokenness of our world, or seeking to understand Jesus’ teaching in the Beatitudes, this sermon will help you discover what it means to be blessed even in the midst of mourning.
